Bowtt Sail

Watch Lamu's sunset from a traditional dhow.

Sail is the dhow side of Bowtt — a traditional Kasa or Jahazi dhow, sailed by a local captain, usually timed for golden hour. It lives inside the Bowtt app, right next to your normal jetty-to-jetty trips.

STEP 01

Sign up or log in

Create a free Bowtt passenger account, or log in if you already have one. It's the same account you use to book a boat between jetties.

STEP 02

Switch to Sail

Inside the app, use the Ride / Sail switch to move from ordinary boat transport into Bowtt Sail.

STEP 03

Choose your dhow

Pick a Kasa or a Jahazi, and choose a shared seat or a private charter for your group.

STEP 04

Set sail

A local captain accepts your request, and you sail out of Lamu as the sky turns gold.

Your dhow, your way

Two dhows, two ways to book.

K

Kasa

The smaller, wider dhow — cosy and intimate, seating around 6. A popular choice for a private charter with a small group.

J

Jahazi

The bigger traditional dhow, holding up to about 20 passengers. Well suited to a shared sunset sail or a larger group charter.

S

Shared

Book a seat and pay per person, sailing alongside other passengers.

P

Private

Charter the whole dhow for your group, with the boat reserved just for you.

Good to know

What a Sail trip looks like.

A typical dhow sail lasts around two hours, usually scheduled for golden hour — commonly between 4:30pm and 6:30pm — and departs from a Lamu jetty. Exact timing and departure point depend on the captain and dhow you choose inside the app.
