Who we are

What we collect

To run BOWTT we collect the account details you give us when you sign up, such as your name, phone number and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information Google shares for that sign-in. We keep records of your trips, ratings and any messages exchanged through the app so trips can be coordinated and disputes can be looked into.

We also collect location data, but passengers and captains are treated differently. A passenger's device location can be used for things like matching you to a nearby jetty or validating a request; it does not replace the pickup jetty you selected. A captain's live location is used to show their position on the map, estimate arrival time and support the active trip. Finally, we collect device information needed to deliver push notifications, such as your device identifier and notification subscription.

How we use it

We use your information to match passengers with captains and run trips, send you the notifications, trip summaries and payment receipts a trip needs, keep the platform safe, and build the reputation and ratings that help everyone travel with confidence. We may also use it to improve BOWTT over time. We do not sell your personal information.

Who sees your information

The other party on a trip sees what they need to coordinate it — for example, a captain sees the passenger's name and pickup details for their booking, and a passenger sees their matched captain's name, rating and boat. We also share information with trusted service providers who help us run BOWTT, such as SMS and email delivery, push notifications, maps, and Google sign-in — they only receive what they need to provide that service. We may share information where the law requires it, or where necessary to protect the safety of our users.

How long we keep it

We keep account and trip records while your account is active and for as long as needed for safety, accounting and legal reasons. Verification codes (OTPs) are short-lived and expire within minutes of being sent.

Your choices and rights

Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to certain uses of it. To make any of these requests, email info@bowtt.com.

Security

We use access controls, encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and checks on how accounts sign in to help keep your information secure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.

Children

BOWTT is not intended for children under 18 to use on their own.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will let you know through the app or by other reasonable means.
